    FAQs.

What is the Ring Alarm Security Kit?

The Ring Alarm Security Kit is a DIY home security system that works on both houses and flats. The 5-piece kit comes with a Base Station, Contact Sensor, Motion Detector, Keypad and Range Extender.

Ring Alarm is simple enough that it can be installed without any tools or professional installation. Simply place the Contact Sensor on any door or window in your home, and choose to get a mobile notification when it opens. You can also place the Motion Detector in any room of your home, and get a notification when motion is detected.

Do I have to purchase the kit? Or can I buy it piece by piece?

To get started with Ring Alarm, you need to purchase a Ring Alarm Security Kit. The Base Station controls your entire Alarm system and is only available with the Ring Alarm Security Kit. The Base Station cannot be purchased separately.

Additional Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Keypads, Range Extenders and future Ring Alarm components can be purchased separately to expand the coverage of your system. These will connect with the Base Station at your home to protect your entire home.

    How does Assisted Monitoring work?

When setting up Assisted Monitoring for your Ring Alarm, you will be asked to provide the contact details of up to three emergency contacts (this can include you as the owner). These should include trusted family members, friends, or neighbours who can respond appropriately in the event of a security issue. As the owner, you don’t have to be assigned as an emergency contact.

In addition to receiving notifications and emails when your Ring Alarm is triggered, Assisted Monitoring automatically calls your list of emergency contacts to notify them of a potential security issue. During the call, your emergency contacts can accept the notification by clicking number 1 on their phone keypad; they should then be able to appropriately respond to the notification. Find out more about how Assisted Monitoring works.

How do I sign up for Assisted Monitoring?

You can sign up for Assisted Monitoring by purchasing Ring Protect Plus2. Protect Plus also gives you cellular backup, 30 days of video recording and sharing for unlimited Ring Doorbells and Cameras at a single location, as well as extended warranties and exclusive discounts.

All Ring Alarm Security Kits include a 30-day free trial of Protect Plus. After the trial ends, you can purchase Protect Plus for only £8 a month or £80 a year.

How do I control Ring Alarm?

You can easily arm and disarm your system with the free Ring app (compatible with iOS and Android devices). You can also use the Keypad if you’re indoors and not near your phone or tablet. Ring Alarm provides three Security Modes to control your system:

    • Away activates your entire system.
    • Disarmed deactivates your system.
    • Home activates select sensors to fit your needs.
What happens if the power or internet goes out?

Ring Alarm comes with a 24-hour backup battery1 that kicks in whenever the power at home goes out. You can also get cellular backup with Ring Protect Plus so your system can stay online during an outage.

Can I use Ring Alarm without Assisted Monitoring?

Yes. Without Assisted Monitoring, you can still choose to receive mobile and email notifications whenever Ring Alarm detects a security threat at your home, so you can self-monitor your property from anywhere. However, apart from Assisted Monitoring, you will also not have access to cellular backup in case your internet goes offline without a subscription to Ring Protect Plus.

Does Ring Alarm offer assisted monitoring for commercial businesses?

No. We recommend Ring Alarm is used on residential properties only.
