It’s happened to all of us - an unexplained noise in the dead of night, a strange shape that disappeared almost as soon as it arrived. We tell ourselves it was just the wind. That shape wasn't a person, it was the shadow of a tree...but was it?
Us Brits love the mystery of the supernatural and tales of the unexpected. In fact, according to research commissioned by Ring, 40% of us believe in some form of paranormal activity. Incredibly, a whopping 62% of those folk report that they experienced it within their own home.
It should come as no surprise that some of our customers are convinced that they have proof of a haunting, captured by their Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
“People use our devices for more than just traditional security, with many also using them to keep an eye on paranormal activity in the home." said Dave Ward, Managing Director EU & International at Ring.
In March of this year, we teamed up with Yvette Fielding to analyse chilling clips submitted by our customers, which claimed to include evidence of everything from flying objects to unexpected orbs. After analysing the videos, Yvette offered her expert opinion on the events that had been captured.
This Halloween, we're going one better. We're calling on the Most Haunted star once more, and this time, Yvette will help us conduct a hunt for the UK's most haunted home. Customers who submit a clip of their haunted house are in with a chance of experiencing an in-person visit from Yvette, so she can investigate the paranormal activity first-hand.
While Ring devices are designed to help customers check on visitors and see what's happening at home in the land of the living, they have also been known to capture some curiously creepy clips.
“This Halloween, we’re giving customers a chance to have their property inspected for any spooky happenings. Hopefully, both Ring and Yvette can give peace of mind to anyone who thinks their house may be haunted.” Dave Ward added.
Our research tells us over half the nation (57%) claim to have experienced something suspiciously spooky. That's a lot of homes that might be harbouring a haunting!
For those of you who suspect your home might be sheltering more than the expected number of residents, Yvette has provided a handy list of things to lock or listen out for:
-
Unexplained knocking or ringing of the doorbell
-
Disembodied voices heard
-
Knocking, banging and tapping sounds coming from the walls, ceiling or floor
-
Footsteps heard walking around the house
-
Furniture moving on its own
-
Electrical appliances turning themselves on and off
-
Water suddenly flowing from showers and taps
-
Puddles of mysterious water appearing
“Hearing unexplained noises and seeing ghost sightings of family members that have passed away are just a few of the paranormal experiences that people may come across within their homes. It’s great to have devices like Ring Security Cameras that can capture footage for us to further investigate these spooky activities. I’m excited to collaborate with Ring again to help find the UK’s most haunted house.” Yvette told us.
So if you have captured footage of any mysterious events on your Ring device and would like Yvette to visit your home and analyse the activity, please send it to spookystories@ring.com. Submissions are open from now until 23:59 BST Sunday 29th September.
